Announcing the Winners of Artsome Young Artist Competition! - Artsome

Artsome hosted an art competition last month for India’s young artists, inviting participants to share a selection of their best works. We were thrilled to receive many entries which were thoughtfully chosen by the artists and showed an in-depth understanding of various concepts such as the aspect of time, travel, politics, poverty and identity. The positive response from all the colleges and last minute inquiries urged us to extend the deadline for another fortnight!

More than 400 images were submitted by applicants hailing from art colleges in Delhi, Mumbai, Pune, Kolkata, Santiniketan, Jaipur, Jodhpur, Vadodara, Surat, Jammu, and Allahabad. All of them are either currently enrolled or recent graduates of BFA/MFA.

On 15th June 2014, which was the last date of entries for the Competition, The Jury at Artsome embarked on a month long process of shortlisting candidates and picking our top three winners. Based on their 500 word artist statement and set of images that each participant had sent in, we discussed the concepts behind their works, level of skill, aesthetics, etc as part of the selection criteria. After comparing the individual opinions of each member of the Jury, we personally spoke to all the shortlisted candidates to probe deeper into their works and get behind their individual thought processes.

We are pleased to announce that the FIRST PRIZE of INR 10,000 GOES TO BHAGYASHREE SUTHAR of Vadodara, Gujarat.

Bhagyashree is currently pursuing her Masters in Visual Arts from Faculty of Fine Arts in Maharaja Sayajirao University in Vadodara. Exploring the self through architectural spaces and structures, she creates an eerie world with an inimitable charm.

Pursuing printmaking at the S. N. School of Fine Arts in Hyderabad, 2nd semester student Ankit Patel has a satiric and humorous take on icons, celebration and identity. Taking popular themes, he toys with contrast and repetition in his works.

And our THIRD PRIZE OF INR 5,000 GOES TO SRINIVAS PULAGAM of Vishakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh.

Having completed his BFA from Andhra University, Srinivas already possesses an adept skill in creating figurative works with heavy compositions. Inspired by his own childhood memories, he mostly uses charcoal, pen and ink to depict the life and games of children with meticulous detail.

The winning work will be displayed on our website homepage and social media platforms for 2 weeks!

Congratulations to everyone who entered our contest! There were many truly inspiring entries. Stay tuned to our blog for a detailed profile on the winner coming up next week!
